Formation & Purpose

The Southern California Chapter, 1st Marine Division Association, Inc is a chapter of the 1st Marine Division Association, Inc a Non-profit organization.

 

The Chapter was initially formed July 26, 1968.

The purpose of the Chapter is to represent members in the Association that are located in Southern California and vicinity that would follow the purposes and aims of the Association under the laws of the State of California.

It was charged to preserve incidents and perpetuate memories, to foster and encourage spirit and comradeship in arms of the members of the Association, to promote and safe guard the principles of justice, to foster patriotism and love of Country, promote and cultivate social intercourse and fellowship in the spirit of the United States Marine Corps.

On November. 14, 2013 the Southern California Chapter was incorporated and received its IRS exemption for a 501(c)(19) non-profit veterans’ organization. This exemption was granted on the representation that at least 75 percent of the members are past or present members of the Armed Forces of the United States as defined under section 501(c)(19) of the code. It is also based on the representation that substantially all other members, if, any are individuals that are cadets, spouses, widows or widowers of past or present members of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

WHAT WE DO

The Chapter and Friends of the Chapter are very active in the San Diego County area and supports the elements of the 1st Marine Division that includes the 7th Marine Regiment based at Twenty-Nine Palms primarily through cookouts and luncheons for Wounded Marines and Corpsmen. The Chapter sponsors the School of Infantry by acknowledging the Honor member of each graduation class and recognizing the Division’s Marine, Sergeant and Corpsman of the Quarter. Additionally, Chapter members attend Change of Commands, Post and Reliefs, Memorials and numerous other events at Camp Pendleton. The Chapter also supports Toys for Tots. The Chapter is proud of its close working relationship with the 1st Marine Division and the Headquarters of the 1st Marine Division Association officed at Camp Pendleton.
